Clinical Counselor - Supervisor
My Focus Areas
Individual Adults: With individuals I work to empower clients to explore insight and be open to making positive changes in their lives. Some common presenting concerns that I work with are anxiety, stress management, depression, trauma, change in life stages, work/life balance related issues, grief, and relationship stressors. We will work together as a team to utilize these new insights and be able to lead an overall healthier and mindfulness filled lifestyle.
Relationships: From my training background I utilize a systems perspective with couples and families to gain insight into unhealthy communication and interaction patterns. This insight helps to restore trust and healthy communication within relationships. Relationships can be explored and healed through not only couples and family counseling, but also through individual counseling. Learning to express your emotions and thoughts more effectively, as well as being an active listener can help you feel more connected and validated by others.
Kids/Adolescents/Teens: Growing up is a challenging moment in life that can be filled at times with worry, peer issues, and academic stress. With adolescents and teens I create a space of non-judgment and understanding where they can explore their own unique process of growing up and what this means for them. I also have training in play therapy and sand tray therapy that helps me connect with young kids.
I believe in working in a collaborative environment with clients to achieve their goals. To do this I provide a non-judgmental, inviting, and open environment where I hope to make clients feel safe to process whatever they present to me. I believe in accountability and the importance of this to create lasting change so I will be direct with you, but in a gentle way. My main training is in systems theories, but I am an integrative therapist who also utilizes individual theories with emphasis on person centered and strengths based approaches.
Prior to working in private practice I had the opportunity to work in a community mental health setting working with clients of all ages from early childhood to late adulthood. Through both settings I have experience with a variety of issues including trauma, mood disorders, and anxiety. I am a graduate from the University of Akron with a Master's in Education in Marriage and Family Therapy and an undergraduate background in Psychology. I am a Licensed Independent Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with supervisor designation. Further, I have specialized training in EMDR, brainspotting, sandtray therapy, play therapy, and trauma related issues.
When I’m not working I try my best to live my life in the authentic way that I teach clients with boundaries being an integral part to this. To help maintain a healthy work/life balance I take my dog, Buster, on walks, explore local small businesses and restaurants, catch up with friends and family, and the occasional reality TV binge-watching when the world feels a little too stressful. I’m an ENFJ who loves connecting with others and helping them grow. It’s truly nice to meet you and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
