My Focus Areas
Relationships: From my training background I utilize a systems perspective with couples and families to gain insight into unhealthy communication and interaction patterns. This insight helps to restore trust in relationships.Relationships can be explored and healed through individual, couples, and/or family counseling.
With individuals I work to empower clients to explore insight and be open to making positive changes in their lives. Some common presenting concerns that I work with are anxiety, depression, trauma, change in life stages, work/life balance related issues, and relationship stressors.
Kids/Adolescents/Teens: Through my journey, most of my career experiences have involved young kids, adolescents, and teens. I have training in sand tray therapy and play therapy that help me connect with young kids. With adolescents and teens I create a space of non-judgment and understanding where they can explore their own unique process of growing up and what this means for them.
I believe in working in a collaborative environment with clients to achieve their goals. I provide a non-judgmental, inviting, and open environment where I hope to make you feel safe to process whatever may be impacting you. I believe in accountability and the importance of this to create lasting change. I will be direct with you, but in a gentle way. My specialized training is insystems theories, but I am an integrative therapist who also utilizes Cognitive BehavioralTherapy (CBT), motivational interviewing strategies, and Solution-focused therapy techniques.
Prior to working in private practice, I had the opportunity to work in a community mental health setting with clients of all ages from early childhood to late adulthood. I am experienced in working with clients impacted by trauma, mood disorders, and anxiety. I am a graduate from the University of Akron with a Master’s in Education in Marriage and Family Therapy and an undergraduate background in Psychology. I am a Licensed Independent Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. As an LPC, I am under direct supervision of Dr. Teresa Rogers. Further, I have specialized training in EMDR, sandtray therapy, play therapy, and trauma related issues.
When I’m not working, I try my best to live my life in the authentic way that I teach clients. Self-care is integral in maintaining a healthy work/life balance and I do this by taking my dog, Buster, on walks, exploring local small businesses and restaurants, catching up with friends and family, and the occasional reality TV binge-watching when the world feels a little too stressful. It’s truly nice to meet you and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and help you grow!
